SwimRun is a relatively new sport that emerged in Sweden about 15 years ago. Results from Cape Town’s race show that due to the sport being so new, there is a large variance observed in training strategy, equipment use and cardiovascular fitness.
Importantly, the research supported the hypothesis that race performance is not only affected by running and swimming training but is also subject to experience in the ocean. After validating a new questionnaire, it was shown that ocean experience was a significant predictor of performance.
